5 Simple Tips for a Healthier Thanksgiving

A Better Life Lived Posted on November 20 by About KiraFebruary 12
Such simple ideas to really make for a healthier Thanksgiving! Gotta try these!

If you ask most people what their favorite part of Thanksgiving is, they’d tell you it was the food. In fact, a lot of people probably couldn’t tell you anything else they even associate with Thanksgiving! Although I’m sure a few would say the Black Friday shopping part was their favorite, that really doesn’t have anything to do with the celebration of the holiday itself. And don’t even get me started on the shopping that takes place ON Thanksgiving now. I’m not sure why, but it seems to be the only holiday in which food is the only way we really celebrate. Christmas has church and decorating of the house and tree. Halloween has trick-or-treating, dressing up, and enjoying all things … More…

Quarter 3 Update: Progress on My New Year Goals

A Better Life Lived Posted on October 16 by About KiraDecember 17
My quarter 3 progress update on my New Year goals! See where I've nailed it, and where I failed it! The struggle is real!

The third quarter of the year is over already?! I guess that means it’s time for an update on my goals for the new year. I posted our goals for 2017 in the beginning of January. As promised, I will be posting quarterly progress updates to hold myself accountable. Overall, quarter one went pretty well. I think quarter two went even better. This past quarter I experienced a bit of a shift. I lost some steam in areas I did better in earlier in the year but had some real progress in my health goals. There were lots of health changes this quarter. I started utilizing the personal trainer and gym at work in the beginning of August. We also adopted a … More…

Why balance is the key to creating the life you want

A Better Life Lived Posted on July 22 by About KiraFebruary 12
If you spend all of your time worrying you're not living "in the present" enough, read to find out why you should be focusing on balance instead.

Living in the present is all the rage these days. Everywhere I look are quotes reminding me to “live in the present” and not “worry about the future.” They’re displayed on everything from coffee mugs and notebooks to t-shirts and pillows. And while I understand the need to be reminded to live in the moment and be present, we may be overusing the message and misconstruing its meaning. This is especially true for moms. We constantly feel like we’re missing out on precious moments with our little ones when we’re distracted with other tasks or worrying about things like work, bills, and plans. I know all too well the guilt of missing a moment that may never happen again. And the … More…

Quarter 2 Update: Progress on My New Year Goals

A Better Life Lived Posted on June 26 by About KiraMarch 29
My quarter 2 progress update on my New Year goals! See where I've nailed it, and where I failed it! The struggle is real!

I can’t believe it’s already time for the second update on my goals for the new year. I posted our goals for 2017 in the beginning of January. As promised, I will be posting quarterly progress updates to hold myself accountable. Overall, quarter one went pretty well. I think quarter two went even better. Progress is being made in all areas, even though there is less progress in some areas than I’d like! I ironed out a few of the issues I had with my health and blogging goals, but it was far from perfect. Weight loss is still something I’m really struggling with and have made virtually no progress on at all! There is still a long way to go for … More…

A valuable lesson in how to be a failure

A Better Life Lived Posted on April 10 by About KiraFebruary 13
Excellent tips to remember for when I am feeling like a failure! So true!

Failing is never fun. It makes us question our abilities and our value. If we experience a hard enough blow or a few in a row, then we start to doubt ourselves altogether. However, failure doesn’t have to be so soul-crushing. It doesn’t have to define you. A failure is not who you are. “There is but one cause of human failure. And that is man’s lack of faith in his true self.” -William James My recent experience with failure Recently, I interviewed for a job that I really wanted. At the time of the interview, I had little interest. There was a lot I didn’t know about the job and I wasn’t sure if it was going to fit … More…
