Self-Improvement

Part of being healthy is recognizing that we are all a work in progress. And being a work in progress means that we are always working toward improvement. Self improvement is one of the most important areas to focus on because even small adjustments in our attitudes, mindset, positivity, or countless other areas can make other tasks easier. Whether our big goals and struggles be parenting, our career, our weight, or anything else, starting with improving our mindsets and focusing on self improvement is a great place to get a jump start.

Struggling to stop a bad habit? You might be making this mistake.

A Better Life Lived Posted on January 30 by About KiraFebruary 10
Hand reaching for donuts with text overlay "Struggling to stop a bad habit? You might be making this mistake!"

I can’t eat a few bites of ice cream and be done. I’ll also never be the person to take a handful of chips and be satisfied. But it’s not because I have no willpower. It’s because I’ve made the mistake of assuming I can stop a bad habit through sheer force of will and nothing more. I now realize I need to take into account a specific quality of my personality. Who eats four potato chips? When I was in college, I lived with a group of friends. The first time I saw one of them, a tiny, petite girl, take a bag of chips to the living room and then proceed to eat four chips and return the … More…

A Better Life Lived Posted on October 23 by About KiraFebruary 12
Awesome reminder that as a working mom, you don't have to accept feeling torn between work and family. It's okay to prioritize family and put work on the backburner.

As a working mom, I understand how difficult it can be to feel stretched between work priorities and home priorities. It’s tough. It’s even more difficult if your desire is to be a stay-at-home mom. Quarter 3 Update: Progress on My New Year Goals

A Better Life Lived Posted on October 16 by About KiraDecember 17
My quarter 3 progress update on my New Year goals! See where I've nailed it, and where I failed it! The struggle is real!

The third quarter of the year is over already?! I guess that means it’s time for an update on my goals for the new year. I posted our goals for 2017 in the beginning of January. As promised, I will be posting quarterly progress updates to hold myself accountable. Overall, quarter one went pretty well. I think quarter two went even better. This past quarter I experienced a bit of a shift. I lost some steam in areas I did better in earlier in the year but had some real progress in my health goals. There were lots of health changes this quarter. I started utilizing the personal trainer and gym at work in the beginning of August. We also adopted a … More…

How to Fight Fear for Women’s Safety

A Better Life Lived Posted on August 2 by About KiraFebruary 12
Women's safety is an increasingly important issue. Overcome the fear and tackle the issue head on.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I try to maintain a positive and uplifting vibe in all of my posts. Negativity isn’t something any of us need more of. I want this to be a safe place where you can come for advice and positive ideas to live better and refocus on the important things in life. This is not a place for conflict, complaints, or despair. Life, however, is not always sunshine and roses, and to live better, we must deal with unpleasant situations, like the reality of women’s safety in our society. A family’s worst nightmare Last week, a family friend tragically lost their teenage daughter. Olivia was a 17-year-old girl about … More…

Why balance is the key to creating the life you want

A Better Life Lived Posted on July 22 by About KiraFebruary 12
If you spend all of your time worrying you're not living "in the present" enough, read to find out why you should be focusing on balance instead.

Living in the present is all the rage these days. Everywhere I look are quotes reminding me to “live in the present” and not “worry about the future.” They’re displayed on everything from coffee mugs and notebooks to t-shirts and pillows. We constantly feel like we’re missing out on precious moments with our little ones when we’re distracted with other tasks or worrying about things like work, bills, and plans. I know all too well the guilt of missing a moment that may never happen again. And the … More…
