A Better Life Lived Posted on March 5 by About KiraMarch 9
Sick woman laying down with text overlay "Ways to Stay healthy during cold and flu season! 10 simple things you can do!"

In the Midwest, cold and flu season is 16 months long. No, wait, that can’t be right. In all seriousness, it is about 7 months long, lasting from October through April. If it can snow, you still might get sick. Needless to say, I’ve been searching for and testing ways to stay healthy for my entire life. That only increased when I became a mother. Because I do not have time, nor the ability, to be sick every month for more than half the year. With the new COVID-19 coronavirus illness spreading this year, I know finding ways stay healthy is at the top of everyone’s mind even more than usual right now. While we can’t be completely fool proof, … More…

I can’t eat a few bites of ice cream and be done. I’ll also never be the person to take a handful of chips and be satisfied. But it’s not because I have no willpower. It’s because I’ve made the mistake of assuming I can stop a bad habit through sheer force of will and nothing more. I now realize I need to take into account a specific quality of my personality. Who eats four potato chips? When I was in college, I lived with a group of friends. The first time I saw one of them, a tiny, petite girl, take a bag of chips to the living room and then proceed to eat four chips and return the … More…

When we first decided to embark on a plant-based lifestyle, it was a little overwhelming. One of the hardest parts was finding alternative ways to eat the foods we no longer could and knew we would miss. As a lover of pancakes, finding a recipe for simple plant-based pancakes was one of the first things I wanted to tackle. I ended up having a great recipe that I was able to modify into a plant-based, vegan version that works so well! Why find a new recipe when you can modify an old one? I hate having to test a ton of new recipes to find a new favorite. It is time consuming and if they don’t work out, you’re stuck … More…

Starting a Plant-Based Diet Can be Simple!

A Better Life Lived Posted on January 14 by About KiraFebruary 11
Bowls of fruit with text overlay "starting a plant based diet can be simple!"

When my family was first starting a plant-based diet, I was a little nervous. I mean, how do you feed your family on just plants? But my husband and I believed it would improve our health, and it has. So we continue. Having lived my entire life in the Midwest, I knew I’d have to relearn everything about how to prepare meals. I was a vegetarian for years when I was younger but removing all dairy and eggs is not something I ever imagined I’d do. I remember thinking in the past that being vegan (before plant-based was a thing) sounded both crazy and super difficult! We’ve been plant-based for over two years now. I can tell you it’s not … More…
