Goals & Passions

We all have goals and passions. Often, they get put on the back-burner because we “don’t have enough time” or “don’t have enough money” or “don’t have enough knowledge.” I want to help you identify or reconnect with those goals and passions, figure out what’s holding you back, and move toward them. You get one shot at life and it’s worth living one you absolutely love.

Quarter 3 Update: Progress on My New Year Goals

A Better Life Lived Posted on October 16 by About KiraDecember 17
My quarter 3 progress update on my New Year goals! See where I've nailed it, and where I failed it! The struggle is real!

The third quarter of the year is over already?! I guess that means it’s time for an update on my goals for the new year. I posted our goals for 2017 in the beginning of January. As promised, I will be posting quarterly progress updates to hold myself accountable. Overall, quarter one went pretty well. I think quarter two went even better. This past quarter I experienced a bit of a shift. I lost some steam in areas I did better in earlier in the year but had some real progress in my health goals. There were lots of health changes this quarter. I started utilizing the personal trainer and gym at work in the beginning of August. We also adopted a … More…

Quarter 2 Update: Progress on My New Year Goals

A Better Life Lived Posted on June 26 by About KiraMarch 29
My quarter 2 progress update on my New Year goals! See where I've nailed it, and where I failed it! The struggle is real!

I can’t believe it’s already time for the second update on my goals for the new year. I posted our goals for 2017 in the beginning of January. As promised, I will be posting quarterly progress updates to hold myself accountable. Overall, quarter one went pretty well. I think quarter two went even better. Progress is being made in all areas, even though there is less progress in some areas than I’d like! I ironed out a few of the issues I had with my health and blogging goals, but it was far from perfect. Weight loss is still something I’m really struggling with and have made virtually no progress on at all! There is still a long way to go for … More…

A valuable lesson in how to be a failure

A Better Life Lived Posted on April 10 by About KiraFebruary 13
Excellent tips to remember for when I am feeling like a failure! So true!

Failing is never fun. It makes us question our abilities and our value. If we experience a hard enough blow or a few in a row, then we start to doubt ourselves altogether. However, failure doesn’t have to be so soul-crushing. It doesn’t have to define you. A failure is not who you are. “There is but one cause of human failure. And that is man’s lack of faith in his true self.” -William James My recent experience with failure Recently, I interviewed for a job that I really wanted. At the time of the interview, I had little interest. There was a lot I didn’t know about the job and I wasn’t sure if it was going to fit … More…

Quarter 1 Update: Progress on My New Year Goals

A Better Life Lived Posted on March 29 by About KiraMarch 29
My quarter 1 progress update on my New Year goals! See where I've nailed it, and where I failed it!

Every year, my family and I create a list of goals for the new year. I posted our goals for 2017 in the beginning of January. As promised, I will be posting quarterly progress updates to hold myself accountable. Overall, quarter one went pretty well. I definitely made some progress in the financial category and a little in business. Health didn’t go quite as well. As I expected, that’s where I struggled most. So let’s get into it. We’ll take a look at where I’ve nailed it, and where I’ve failed it. Then I’ll go over why I might have failed and how I can do better next quarter!   Goals and Progress so far   Family & Financial Finish fixing … More…

Goals Update January 2017

A Better Life Lived Posted on February 4 by About KiraApril 8
Second monthly goals update. See how I've done on my weight loss and financial goals!

In November, I posted about how Andy and I had decided to split the responsibilities for our goals. The idea is that by splitting who was solely responsible for our success in each of two areas, we’d increase our accountability. Each month I’ll be checking in with an update until we reach or change our goals! Here is last month’s update. Let’s see how we did this past month.   The Goals We have two major goals. Of course, there are other goals besides these two but we’re focusing in on two since there are two of us. Once we get these under control we can expand onto the others. Each of us is in charge of a different thing. … More…

Choosing a Word of the Year

A Better Life Lived Posted on January 31 by About KiraFebruary 19
A guide to choosing a word of the year. Includes a list of words to get your juices flowing!

There is a new trend in the world of resolutions, goals, success building, and self-improvement. The past several years, people have been choosing one word at the beginning of the year to guide them throughout the coming year. I’m not quite sure how or where it started, but over the years, the idea of having a word of the year has been gaining momentum. Everyone from celebrities to big name bloggers and entrepreneurs, to regular folks are choosing a single word, or short phrase, to be their “guiding light” that leads them toward their goals. People who have done this swear that it is a game changer in the way they approach their goals and ambitions. My Word of the … More…

How to Change your Spending Habits in 3 Months

A Better Life Lived Posted on January 16 by About KiraFebruary 19
Go on a 3 month spending freeze and radically change your spending habits permanently!

I live a pretty minimal lifestyle. I don’t go shopping often and don’t generally buy things that I don’t want. It hasn’t always been this way, though. For a long time, Andy’s and my free time was often spent walking the mall or hitting nearby stores. It was our hobby. Until three years ago when we made a radical decision. To save money and pay off some debt, for three months, we would go on a spending freeze. No spending any money on anything unnecessary. Not only did we save a bunch of money but surprisingly, we completely reframed the way we viewed money and were able to change our spending habits for the better. A New Perspective Sometimes we need to … More…
