Grateful Living- August 2016
So often we get stuck in the day-to-day hustle and forget to acknowledge what’s really important. If someone were to ask “What’s most important to you?” we would be quick to respond with things like family, friends, being a good person, and so on. Unfortunately, we allow ourselves to get sidetracked a lot and temporarily “forget” our priorities. Unanswered emails clamor for our attention, deadlines and “to-do” lists clutter up our minds and steal our attention. As a way to temporarily silence these outside distractions, I like to look back over the past month and remind myself what is beautiful in my life. I try to identify three things that have happened in the past few weeks that I am grateful for and recognize them. I remind myself that these are what make up my life and have value. And for them, I am grateful.
Top 3 things I’m grateful for in August
- The Wisconsin State Fair-I absolutely love the fair. My husband and I look forward to it every year and now that our son is a little older, we enjoy sharing it with him. This year, it was wonderful to be able to show him the farm animals that he sees in his books up close. He kept pointing to the cow and babbling as we rolled his stroller right up to one that was sleeping. He seemed so interested. To be able to experience all of these new things with him is like experiencing them for the first time all over again!
- Time at Home-The end of August marked one month as a SAHM. I’m still looking for employment, but being able to be home with Zachary while he’s been changing so rapidly and growing mentally so much has been a blessing. I am so grateful that I’ve been able to be there for several firsts over these past couple of weeks; the first time he hugged the dog, when he first started to try to put on his own shoes, when he first tried to help us brush the dog. I’m definitely going to enjoy this time as much as I can as the silver lining on my situation.
- Zachary’s health- Little guy had his 15 month appointment this month and he couldn’t be healthier. He’s off the charts for both height and weight. He got his MMR shot so he’s all up to date on his most important ones. The Dr. is so impressed with his health and growth. He’s 100% off bottles and already brushing his teeth every day. He has still yet to get sick and his teething, even at its worst, isn’t too bad. I remember to be grateful for that every day.
What are you grateful for this month? Leave a comment and let us know!
