An easy, healthy sweet treat kids will absolutely love!
Summertime treats are a big hit in our house. To be honest, it doesn’t even have to be summer. Ice cream, popsicles, lemonade. You name it, we love it. What I don’t love is how sugary and unhealthy all of those treats are. Even the “healthy” versions are loaded with junk, and I don’t feel good giving them to my son on a regular basis.
When my son recently discovered popsicles and began to constantly ask for them, I knew I had to find a simple, healthy alternative to the ones we bought at the store. So I decided to start making smoothie popsicles. They are the healthy sweet treat I had been looking for. He loves them and I love how good they are for him!

What’s so great about smoothie pops?
One reason smoothie pops are great is that they can be a huge time saver when it comes to sweet snacks. If you read my post about why I love to make smoothies a part of our routine, you already know that I make smoothies almost daily. (And if you haven’t, you can read all about it here.)
If you’re already making smoothies on a regular basis, you can just take part of the batch and pour it into some awesome smoothie molds. This set is easy to clean, sets really well, and doesn’t take up much space in the freezer. They’re also super affordable. This is the blender I use and it’s a great cross between functionality, durability, and low cost!
This way, you always have some ready to go. This makes smoothie pops such a time saver when it comes to finding or putting together healthy sweet treats. It takes almost no additional time from making your regular smoothies! And it’s way quicker than making homemade snack bars or trying to find something comparable at the store.
The second reason I love smoothie pops is even though smoothies are great, sometimes it can get a little boring having the same thing all the time. Even my son, who absolutely loves smoothies, loves smoothie pops more. Given a choice, he’ll always go for the popsicle version.
They feel like a treat to him, so on those occasions when he’s not totally interested in drinking something, he’s always willing to take a smoothie pop. Even if it’s the exact same thing! And anything that keeps me from having to argue about something like nutrition with a 3-year-old earns a gold star in my book. And as a bonus, he completely buys these as dessert. He’ll actually ask for these instead of things like cookies.
The third reason I love smoothie pops, and this may just be the most important one, is that you can feel good about saying yes to your child’s request for what is typically a junk food. As a mom who’s trying to keep my son as healthy as possible and struggles because I still have my own unhealthy habits, I feel like I’m constantly saying no to things. And during the summertime, that includes the sugary, store-bought popsicles and ice cream.
But these? I can say yes three times a day. He knows they’re healthy so there’s no tricking him here; I always make sure to call them healthy popsicles. He doesn’t care. To him, it’s as guilty and delicious as all the popsicles and ice cream you could buy. And that’s with extra fruit and veggies and no artificial dyes or preservatives. I mean, seriously, does it get any better than that?
A healthy sweet treat worth craving!
We all need a sweet treat every now and then. But there’s no reason we can’t have some of those treats be good for us. It doesn’t always have to be one or the other. All in all, smoothie pops are the perfect healthy sweet treat to cure those summertime cravings.
Smoothie popsicles are a treat you can give your family, and yourself, without any guilt. They make it so easy to fit in servings of fruits and veggies and have literally nothing bad in them! The fact that they are so easy to make is just an awesome bonus. Give them a try. I think you’ll be hooked!
