A-Z About Me
Today I thought I’d do something a little different and share a little. With each new post that makes it onto this site, my goal is always to provide you with something of value. Sometimes that’s a step-by-step step process how to do something. Other times it’s encouragement. Today, I’m just going to share a little more about me.
The reason I’d like to share is because as readers of this blog, and subscribers to my newsletter, you are letting me into your lives. I am so appreciative of that and humbled by it. That my words of encouragement or guidance may help you in even the slightest way is such a gift to me.
I share a lot through my posts about myself and my family, but each instance is specific to the situation being discussed. Today I’m going to let you into my world a little more and share completely random things that you may otherwise never know. So that you may feel like you know me just a little bit better!
I decided to use the alphabet A-Z to guide what I came up with. It was super hard! In fact, I had to cheat a little at X. It would have been a lot easier to just do 10 random facts. But this is way more fun. Enjoy!

The A-Z About Me
Art: I am not the most artistic, but I love creating art. I always have. In fact, it’s the most frequent activity I suggest to my son.
Bob’s Burgers: I absolutely LOVE this cartoon. It’s my favorite show currently on TV. Actually, it’s the only show my husband and I watch regularly every single week. Linda and Louise are my favorite characters.
Cake Decorating: I used to want to open a bakery because I love cake decorating. I made a books and graduation cap cake for Andy’s college graduation party, a wedding cake and cupcakes for a friend’s wedding, and a rainbow layer cake for my sister’s birthday. I’ve also made a Troll’s cupcake cake and a Jurassic Park Cake for Zach’s last two birthdays.
Dogs: I am a dog person. I have lived with a dog since I was probably five years old and have not gone one year since then without. When we bought our first house 10 years ago, we bought a dog less than a year in. They are so much work sometimes, and it’s so sad when they pass, but I couldn’t imagine life without a dog.
Elsa: Elsa is my favorite character in Frozen. My mom saw Frozen and raved about it, saying the sisters reminded her of me and my sister. After seeing Frozen (which I didn’t love), I saw what she meant. After seeing Frozen 2 (which I liked a lot better) I identified with her even more. I can definitely relate to the feeling that I’ve always been a little bit different, never exactly fitting in anywhere, and always searching for my purpose.
Freight: I used to manage logistics and transportation of freight. It was an awful job. If you are a person who does not like chaos and your day dictated by the lack of planning of others and non-stop emergencies, I highly recommend you stay far away from the shipping, transportation, and logistics industry. That being said, I learned so much I never would have known about the supply chain and while a lot of it is utterly useless to me now, I value knowing more about how our world and society functions, and this is definitely a big part of that.
Games: I love to play games! I used to ask my mom to play Yahtzee! with me every night when I was a kid. My favorite games are those in which you need to be fast (like the card game Speed) or word games. I honestly don’t even think I could pick a favorite, but I do really like Yahtzee!, Scrabble, Scattergories, and Catch Phrase. Andy has designed and made several of his own games that we also play.
Hygge: The Scandinavian term to signify a feeling comfort and coziness and contentment. I never know what this was, but after reading The Little Book of Hygge, I immediately realized that my Norwegian heritage must have set me up to naturally be in desire of this. There are lots of ways to create and practice Hygge. I’ve done many of them my whole life, such as constantly using a blanket and having them all over the house, disliking strong, bright lights, and enjoying good times with friends and family. How did I not learn about Hygge as a way of living until I was in my 30s?
Ice Cream: Literally my favorite sweet of all time. I could eat it ever day.
Journal: I loved looking back at my baby book when my son was born. Seeing all of the things my mom wrote down and all of the ways Zach was similar to me was so cool. So I was very detailed in his baby book. After he turned one, I wanted to continue, but nothing exists that I could find to do that. I I started keeping a journal. I make an entry almost every day. It contains things from what he was learning to do at that time, to funny things he said. I have even included details about how his behavior is and health issues. Some day, I hope he finds it interesting. If he has his own kids, maybe it’ll even help him deal with things if he sees similarities in himself and his child.
Kindness: Kindness is of the utmost importance to me. It’s something that I think is dying a little bit in our world. Everyone is so focused on themselves these days, they just don’t think about other people. Being kind is something I’m trying very hard to instill as a value in our home and with Zach. I also try to be as kind as I can as frequently as possible.
Lilacs: My absolute favorite scent. I love the smell of lilac bushes.
Meditate: I never had any interest in meditation. Just never thought about it really. Then I read 10% Happier by Dan Harris and I decided to try. It’s a practice I’m working on as I try to be more controlled in my temper and a more kind human.
Novel: A few years ago, I participated in NANOWRIMO, or National Novel Writing Month, which happens every November. If you’ve ever thought you’d like to be a writer, or just write more, I highly suggest it. I came away with 50,000 words of a novel. I never went back to it after that year, but writing a book was something I’ve always wanted to do. Getting that accomplished in one month let me know if I really want to, I can.
Organizing: Some people think I’m kind of weird for this one, but I love to organize. Rearranging a room and reorganizing new cabinets and drawers is so fun for me. I even enjoy packing.
Party Planning: Another career I considered was being an event or party planner. As you may have noticed with Zach’s first birthday, Snoopy birthday party, and Jurassic Park birthday party, I really love to plan a party! It’s something I’ve always been kind of good at, too. But It’s also something I’m a little worried wouldn’t be as enjoyable if it were my job.
Quality Time: If you’ve ever read or taken the 5 Love Languages quiz, you know that quality time is one of the five languages. It happens to be my language.
Rainbows: I have always loved rainbows. I love color so much that I can’t really just choose one (although if pressed, Cerulean Blue is my favorite). Anything in rainbow color is the best.
Snoopy: Ever since Zach became so attached to Snoopy, I have as well. I was never really attached to any sort of cartoon or characters as a kid. Now, I have Snoopy. He’s our household addiction.
Target: I’m a mom who wears yoga pants when I’m not at work. I can get everything I need and want, and didn’t need or want, at Target. Need I say more?
Uplifting: My ultimate goal with this blog is to be as uplifting as possible to as many people as possible. Life can be tough and not everyone has someone who understands them, hears them, and wants to help them. I want to be that for as many moms as I can.
Vacations: I love vacations! Even when they’re small, we try to take them whenever we can. Especially if it means going somewhere warm while it is cold at home. My favorite kind of vacation is a family cruise.
Watermelon: Not only my favorite fruit of all time but one of my favorite foods in general! When they’re in season, we always have it in the house.
eXpressive: As you can tell from this blog, and the fact that I even have a blog, I’m a pretty expressive person. (Had to cheat with this one, there are so few words that start with X!) I have always had a desire to express thoughts and feelings.
Yoga: My favorite form of exercise, relaxation, and self-care.
Zoo: We’re big animal lovers in our house and our favorite place to spend time during the summer is at the zoo. We even got an annual membership to the local zoo last year and we went more than once a week. I love learning more about the animals, getting to see their personalities, and finding out ways we can help preserve the species and their natural environments.
